Born in Nghe An Province, Le Huy Tiep is among the artists sent to Moscow for art studies in the 1960s. He graduated from the Stroganov College of Industrial Arts and upon his return to Vietnam, he has been teaching at the Hanoi College of Industrial Fine Arts as a lecturer in the graphic department. Prior to the mid-1970s, he experimented with different forms of artistic expressions including realism and expressionism. However after arriving at a hyper-realist approach to painting, he has been working in that direction that gives expression to his social commentaries.
