The 'rebab' refers to a three-stringed spiked fiddle of Middle Eastern origin. It is thought to have originated from the North Iranian district of Kudistan and brought to Southeast Asia through Arab traders. The oval-shaped body is hollowed out from either the nangka (jackfruit) or sena wood and it is covered with a membrane taken from the skin of the cow's stomach.
