This Qur’an is written in a less monumental style of maghribi script. This script was developed in North Africa and Spain in the 10th century and is characterised by a rounding of the angles of the kufic script. The format of the book written in maghribi is squarish as compared to the landscape format of the Kufic-Abbasid Qur’ans. This is also a characteristic unique to the Qur’ans from North Africa and southern Spain.Calligraphy has always been considered the noblest and most featured art in the world of Islam as it transmits the Divine Revelations of God. The pious desire to beautify the Word of God was a central factor in the development of calligraphy in the Islamic world. In the different regions of the Islamic world, different scripts evolved.
