This is a brass lotus-petal stand from Tamil Nadu, South India. It houses the shaligram, a naturally occurring Vaishnava sacred stone, which is a typical ritual object in house shrines and temples. On the base of the lotus petals is a kurma (tortoise) stand alluding to the Kurmavatara of Vishnu, the incarnation of Vishnu as a tortoise.
