This large basin is decorated in a rich and colourful palette with many auspicious designs. The everted, rim has a turquoise brocade and pink border of peaches (symbol of longevity), with a sawtooth design and diamonds with four reserves of peaches and flowers. While the interior has green, yellow, turquoise, blue, pink, red, black and white overglaze enamels on a white ground. The cavetto has peonies (emblems of beauty, prosperity and status) surrounded by semi-circles with flowers.A wash basin like basin would probably have been used by Straits Chinese households.
