This Qing silver and gilt ewer has exquisite craftmanship on the mounts and damascened gold bodywork, which are evidently Chinese in stylistic treatment. It has a pear-shaped body, serpentine spout, loop-handle and a lotus flower head on the lid. While this ewer may be of Chinese workmanship, the form suggests it is of a Middle Eastern metalwork prototype possibly made for this particular market.
