This is a 'kerosang' (brooch) which feautures a floral motif. Nonyas (Peranakan women) were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions. Aside from brooches, their accessories include bracelets, anklets, earrings, belts and buckles, rings, pendants and hairpins. The Chinese Peranakan community in Indonesia is mainly found in the coastal city of Palembang and the north coast cities of Java. They were a migrant community who has adopted many local Javanese practices.
