This group of ornaments features the eight Daoist immortals together with 'Shou Lao', the god of longevity. They would have been sewn on a headband that is worn by a Peranakan bride during the wedding ceremony. It is believed that the deity motifs would protect the wearer from malevolent spiritual forces during the wedding rites.
