This basket featuring abstract geometric motifs is weaved by the Dayak people of Borneo. This lightweight basket is tightly woven in an interlocking fashion with two layers of weaving. It was probably used as a container to store grain and fruit as its close textured weave allowed it to carry seeds. It is widely believed that baskets were one of the first items used in Southeast Asia and they were used as containers to gather food or carry goods, or as mats for protection from the elements or to sleep or sit on.
