This silver alloy dish has a scalloped rim with an incised, foliage design. Traditional silverware of Java consist of many receptacles in the shape of lotus petals and they are used during wedding receptions to hold presents and food. Ornamentations are mainly vegetal and consists of finely embossed flower, tendrils and leaf patterns arranged in myriad ways. Floral motifs are stylised and often appear as an all-over design on small circular objects.
