This black and white gingham swimsuit is decorated with a front panel with two buttons sewn in front. Swimsuits became more common in Singapore in the 1950s and 60s as swimming became an increasingly popular sport. Since it was associated with a sport, swimsuits were thus not seen as indecent and the fashion choices made with it were more readily accepted.
