Journey of A Yellow Man No.2: The Fire and The Sun

‘Journey of A Yellow Man No.2: The Fire and the Sun’ records the artist’s performance executed during the ‘International Sculpture Symposium’, Gulbarge, Karnataka, India, December 1992, when he was invited to ‘carve stones’ with other fellow sculptors from Japan, India, Ireland, Germany and USA. A time-based performance, visitors were meant to see the event as it unfolded. However, due to a curfew being declared in the city due to political strife, few (if any) visitors attended. The sculpture carving continued despite this and the Yellow Man No. 2 was a performance by the artist after the curfew was lifted, raising a miscellany of queries and wonderings about the potentials and problematics associated with sculpture as a medium.
