This pair of perfume sprinklers, made of white brass, represents the type commonly use in two important Malay ceremonies, the 'berinai' and 'cukur rambut'. The 'berinai' ceremony refers to the staining of the bride's fingers with henna the night before the 'bersanding' (sitting in-state). During the 'berinai' ceremony, the bride is sprinkled with rose water contained in the sprinklers. Rose water is believed to possese purifying properties. The 'cukur rambut' ceremony celebrates a child's first haircut. Sliced pandan leaves mixed with flowere and sprinkled with rose water are given to guests at this ceremony.
