This blue-and-white ewer has a floral panel decoration on the body in underglaze cobalt blue. The unusual use of panel decoration gives the object the appearance of a stenciled or stamped design. This item is reportedly excavated in Vietnam. It is not uncommon to find ceramics of Yuan and later periods in Vietnam. Ceramics made up part of the goods traded by China and was exported in large numbers from the southern Chinese coast to many parts of Southeast Asia. Typical examples of these export ceramics included Yuan blue and white wares from Jingdezhen kilns and others from provincial kilns such as Dehua and Swatow.
