On the day of a traditional Chinese wedding, relatives and friends are invited to a reception at the homes of the bride and bridegroom to witness what is considered to be the focal point of the wedding proceedings - the tea ceremony. In a show of respect and gratitude, the new couple serve tea to both sets of parents and other elders in the family.
