This small, round bowl has a very light pliant comprising a warp of ultra fine bamboo interlaced with a weft thread of hair from a horse tail. This type of lacquerware embellished with gold leaf is referred to as 'shwei-zawa' in Myanmar. The art of gilding used to be associated with merit-making and was limited to royalty and religious donations. This bowl was used for making offerings at temples.
