The Police Court on the right was demolished in 1975 and is now the site of the Hong Lim Shopping Centre. On the left, is the Central Police Station that was demolished in 1977. Many people got around town in jinrickshas, or rickshaws, which had been imported from Japan in the 1880s and were to be replaced by the trishaw in 1947.
