These personal diaries belonged to a British soldier in the 1/4th King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, which was one of the reinforcements sent to Singapore from Rangoon by the British colonial authorities to quell the mutiny of sepoy soldiers in Singapore in 1915. Personal diaries provide a different dimension to historical events and experience, which does not surface in official reports and documents. In this case, the diaries provide a personal impression of the suppression of the mutiny, which was significant in Singapore’s colonial history.
