While the fine work on this pierced ivory silver gilt mounted buckle is reminicent of Ottoman craftsmanship, it is probably from India as the craftsman talk about the mention of travelling to the haj by sea. The buckle is carved with inscriptions that read: "Mir Muhammad (has) the intention to (go to) pilgrimage by sea the year 1133 (1720-21).
