Woven basket

The Po Leung Kuk (Office to Protect Virtue) and YWCA looked after the welfare of women. Apart from elementary lessons in English and Chinese, and cooking lessons, girls were also taught how to sew. Sewing needles, threads and samplers would be stored in woven boxes such as this, which is woven in the 'anyam gila' technique. The method creates a three-dimensional effect with its raised triangular and rhombus designs.
