This is a motion paper filed by Jonas Daniel Vaughan on 14 August 1885 concerning the administration of the estate of the deceased Pua Boon Liang. Vaughan, on behalf of Pua Soo Lie, moved the court for an order under section 4910 of the Civil Procedure Ordinance 1878 calling for Poh Tam Neo, the administratrix of the deceased's estate to bring to the Registry the letters of administration granted to her and to justify why these letters should not be recalled or cancelled. This document is part of a collection of legal documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries which provides a glimpse into the work of the notable personalities who left their mark on Singapore’s legal history, and the economic and other transactions undertaken by ordinary immigrants in 19th century Singapore that tell stories of misfortune and indebtedness which would otherwise have disappeared from history.
