This ‘sam’ (top), which is made of silk damask and accented with blue and white lace, belonged to the donor's grandaunt. Underneath the right hand flap of the bodice is a small pocket for the wearer to place her coins and other small items. The ‘sam’ is matched with a plain and loose fitting ‘foo’ (pants). The style is typical of the early 20th century fashion worn by girls in Singapore.
