This scroll accompanies the golden Mace presented by prominent Chinese philanthropist Loke Wan Tho to the City of Singapore, in conjunction with the granting of a Royal Charter by King George VI in 1951 which raised the status of Singapore to a City. The scroll provides a brief history of the colony, beginning from its establishment as a British trading post in 1819.
