This is a photograph of a dinner held at the Great Southern Hotel to mark the one-month celebration of Si Jing’s first born. Si Jing was a prolific female writer in the Chinese community, who has written extensively on her childhood and life in Chinatown. She married her childhood sweetheart, Huang Da Li, in July 1952 and together they had three children. Da Li (fourth from the left) is wearing a Western-style suit with a bow tie, while Si Jing (third from the right) is wearing a cheongsam, which is a tight-fitting, one-piece Chinese dress with short sleeves and a mandarin collar. This photograph is part of the donor’s personal photograph collection.
