The bodice of the gown is made of Swiss embroidered lace with pearls and sequins, while the sleeves are appliquéd with French lace. The body of the gown and the train is made from five layers of satin and French lace ruffles.A pioneer of bridal salons in Singapore, Sylvia Kho studied design and beauty in Britain and Holland and got her start in 1946 selling bridal headdresses to shops in High Street. She set up her own bridal shop in Tanglin Shopping Centre in the early 1960s and continued to expand her business in the mid to late 1970s by opening three other shops at Orchard Towers, Outram Park and Katong Shopping Centre. Her shops made 40 to 50 wedding dresses a month in their heyday, with prices ranging from $250 to $4,000 each. She eventually retired in 1993, closing the remaining Orchard Towers shop (the others were closed in the late 1980s), citing changing wedding fashion trends as the main reason for her retirement.
