‘Kerbau’ or water buffaloes are used to pull a plough through the fields and/or carts carrying goods. As water buffaloes do not have sweat glands, the animal soaks itself in water or mud to cool down.This photograph is part of a set of photographs which belonged to a European who served in the Medical Corps in Singapore and then in Hong Kong. The photographs are dated from 1900–1914.
