The view north along Collyer Quay depicts a row of impressive commercial office buildings. The building in the background, with the twin domes, was the Alkaff Building which was more commonly known as The Arcade. Introduced in 1925 by the Singapore Traction Company, trolley buses became a popular form of transport and within two years, had completely replaced the electric trams. Trolley buses were removed from service in 1962.
