Anklets were known to the Peranakans as 'gelang kaki' in baba Malay. This pair of anklets has ends that meet in lotus bud. Nonyas (Peranakan women) were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions. Some of the most exquisite jewellery was for use during the Peranakan wedding ceremony. Aside from anklets, their accessories include bracelets, pendants, earrings, belts and buckles, rings, 'kerosang' (set of brooches on blouse) and hairpins.
