This is a note dated 20 September 1865 concerning the administration of the estate of the deceased Kadersah. The recipient acknowledged that he received from the Registrar of the Court of Judicature of Prince of Wales' Island, Singapore and Malacca an indenture of lease bearing the date 1 August 1859 that was made between Elizabeth Campbell and Kadersah for a piece of land situated in the district of Rochor, Singapore. This note is part of a collection of legal documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries which provides a glimpse into the work of the notable personalities who left their mark on Singapore’s legal history, and the economic and other transactions undertaken by ordinary immigrants in 19th century Singapore that tell stories of misfortune and indebtedness which would otherwise have disappeared from history.
