This ornamented gold button, with a diamond stud in a star-shaped indentation, was worn by Peranakan women and belonged to a set. Their buttons were usually decorated with filigree gold, gilt silver and diamonds. In contrast, buttons worn by Peranakan men tended to be plain in design, and were usually made of silver, bakelite, ivory, amber and bone. American and European coins were also adopted to become buttons for men.
