This is a pair of ornate gold earrings called ‘wea wunu wona’ in Boawai, translated as ‘swinging leaves gold earrings’. They are in the shape of an oblong oval, decorated with filigree wire curliques all around the sides and ornamented with spangles at the bottom. These were considered heirlooms and were sometimes used as an advance bridewealth payment.
