The stories of the Eight Immortals have always been close to the hearts of ordinary Chinese as the life conditions they embody, such as age, poverty and wealth, are what the masses at large can relate to. Featured here are three of the immortals, (from left to right) Lu Dong Bin, Tie Guai Li and He Xian Gu, part of the several sculptures and statues portraying themes from Chinese folklore and legend that is on display at Haw Par Villa. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, the theme park was built by Aw Boon Haw in 1937 along Pasir Panjang Road with the intention of educating the public about Chinese culture.
