{SOURCE: J-FORM 10/27/2000} This is a sandstone sculpture of Bahubali from a Jain temple. He is standing in the posture of penance, he is nude and creepers are growing around his legs. This implies eternal penance. Faithful Jaina devotees venerate him as someone who had gained control over anger, jealousy, selfishness and pride.Bahubali from the Jain legend was a prince and son of Tirthankara Rishabhanatha, who fought with his own brother and won the battle over the kingdom. Soon after, he decided to relinquish all power and riches and retreated to the forest after handing the reign of his kingdom to his brother.
