This is a gold ‘caping’ or modesty plate elaborately adorned with applied tendrils of gold filigree and beading. This was worn by small girls of noble and well-to-do families who wore this and often little else. A string would be threaded through the lopes at the top of the plate and tied at the waist to cover the female genitalia.
