Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Employing a new method, Yeo created Moonlight Night by spraying pigments onto the paper. As the pigments settled, a granular surface is formed, creating a dream-like atmosphere. Like light from the moon penetrating through, the top of the painting is left blank while a gradual darkening of tones of brown and navy blue indicates a path of light. The light brown patches in the middle of the painting and the bottom of the painting remind the viewers of reflecting light from the surface of water, perhaps signifying the presence of a lake in this painting.
