This sheet of paper has been divided into four sections. Each section has been coated with different sealants (or 'ahar' in Turkish). This experiment was undertaken by Fuad Basar, who wrote on each section with the same ink. The ahar and the size are important as they prevent the ink from seeping into the fibres of the paper – thus allowing the calligrapher to correct any imperfections in the writing. Fuad Basar is a renowed Turkish calligrapher.
