Not only was he one of Singapore’s pioneer artists, he was also a leading figure in the Society of Chinese Artists and the Singapore Art Society. In 1970, he was awarded the Public Service Star for his contributions in the field of art.Liu often travelled within and outside Singapore, and as he did so, he painted the people and their way of life. Using a dark palette for the background, Liu paints two ladies in their brightly coloured traditional costumes, which are worn on special occasions.
