These are ivory ear ornaments. They consist of plugs at one end and projections of varying lengths on the other. The plugs are inserted into the ear lobes. Ear ornaments of this type were worn mainly by Karen men and women.The Karen is an ethnic minority group who migrated into Northern Thailand. The group comprises two main divisions (the Sgaw and Pwo) and smaller sub-groups. Their migration into Thailand from Burma occurred fairly recently during the 18th century.
