Figure of seated Buddha

This small cast bronze image of Bhaisajyaguru, Buddha of Medicine and Healing is depicted in the meditation posture. He is heavily adorned with princely ornaments that includes a crown with a broad foliate headband, the 'mukuta' or cone-shaped hairdress decorated with lotus petals. He is holding a medicine pot in both hands. In Buddhist scriptures, he is often depicted as a doctor who cures the illness of suffering using the medicine of his teachings.The Khmer kingdom saw a period of expansion and commissioned many temples and statues to worship both Buddhist and Hindu gods.
