This vase is carved with panels of floral sprays commonly found on Yaozhou wares. Yaozhou wares are known for their carved decoration, where the green glaze (celadon or green tone glazes that are rich in naturally occurring iron-oxide) pools in the recessed areas, giving the design a three-dimensional effect. This form of vases with wide rims and lug handles recalls Yue vases made in South China during the Sui period (581-618).
