This Chinese-style blackwood footstool is decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay. It belongs to a set of furniture that usually consists of eight chairs, four tea tables, two side-tables and two long benches. In wealthy Peranakan families, furniture like these was usually given to daughters as part of their wedding trousseau.
