Labourers’ hats, such as this, were constructed throughout of bamboo and they are made in the form of two plaited lattice frames enclosing a layer or layers of bamboo leaves and bound tightly together at the rim with strips of bamboo. In some cases, oiled paper was added to the layer of bamboo leaves. The peak of the crown may be protected by a plaited cap. No string or thread was used in their construction.
