This lamp belongs to a collection of ten ritual objects used during daily Hindu worship and festive occasions in temples. The lamp, along with other ritual items, is presented before the image of a deity by priests during the performance of the 'upacara' (daily prescribed duties). The other ritual objects include food, water, incense, mirror, flywhisk, umbrella, fan, oil pitcher and various types of lamps. The image of the god is seen as the embodiment of the deity and thus accorded royal treatment.
