Shoushan stone, is named after Shoushan mountain and its surrounding village in Fuzhou city in eastern China. It is characterised by its fine texture, rich colours and its easy to crave ability. This seal stone belongs to a group of four ink seals carved by 20th century artist and seal carver, Qi Baishi (1864-1957). It is inscribed with the name of the late Dr Tan Tsze Chor, the donor of this collection, who used it in his calligraphy works. Qi was well known for his raw and rough strokes and strength in composition in seal carving.
