It is uncertain where this stone is from. The forehead and lip is carved with a scene of three men touring the Red Cliff at night, as mentioned in the inscription. The scene on the underside depicts an old man seated on a mat, watching a crane above him. This inkstone is partially green, especially on the ink pool, with streaks on its sides and its underside. It is rather unusual for the inkstone carver to carve the water pool and ink pool in the ‘riyue’ (sun-and-moon) style, as this prevents the carver from revealing more of the scene.
