This shallow box with compartments, known as cho-chin-hte, is used to contain Burmese snacks such as fried crisps made from lentil and gram flour, vegetable fritters and glutinous rice balls. A mixture of clay and lacquer was used to strengthen the bamboo core. The final layer of lacquer was mixed with cinnabar pigment to achieve the red colour. The Chinese style landscape design on the cover was painted with gold and other pigments.
