Anglo-Chinese School Buildings

Along Canning Rise are two buildings that used to be part of the Anglo-Chinese School. Founded by the Methodists in 1886 to provide education to boys, Anglo-Chinese School operated at Amoy Street before moving to Coleman Street the same year.

Extensions were built over time to accommodate the growing student population before the school moved out in the 1990s. One of the buildings was redeveloped as the Singapore Philatelic Museum in 1995 and subsequently reopened as the Children’s Museum Singapore in 2022. A new wing of the school constructed in 1957 became home to the National Archives of Singapore in 1997.
