Description
The Neighbourhood Story Collection – Portrait Series is an anchor initiative of HAN@Punggol, documenting the everyday stories, memories and practices that shape life in Punggol. Through door-to-door visits and conversations with residents, HAN Heritage Champions invite the community to share their experiences and shape a living heritage together.
Across the three-year HAN@Punggol initiative, there will be three editions of the Portrait Series focusing on the different spaces found in our homes. Each edition opens up conversations about routine and memories specific to the space, offering insight into the personal accounts that form neighbourhood culture.
Portrait Series:
- Portrait Kitchen — explores food heritage and Punggol’s history as a former agricultural hub, through residents’ memories, recipes and experiences around food.
- Portrait Living Room — explores community, social practices and Punggol’s multicultural heritage, looking at how residents come together and build connections in the neighbourhood.
The stories collected will contribute to a growing community archive of Punggol, helping us better understand “Living Heritage”. Examining how everyday social practices, traditions and relationships have inspired our way of life and continue to shape the neighbourhood.

This programme is part of HAN@Punggol, presented by OH! Open House and supported by the National Heritage Board, as part of Heritage Activation Nodes.
Portrait Living Room
Now onto the second edition of the Portrait Series collection, Portrait Living Room explores community life, neighbourly support and festive practices, inspired by the community spirit of post-war Punggol. Portrait Living Room looks at the living room as a space of gathering, connection and shared experiences, focusing the lens on the intangible traditions and enduring histories that once took root in our very own homes, the identities that quietly coexist within the communal fabric.
