Description

What does it mean to belong to a place? And what happens when we bring something into it?

As part of the Lost, Found & Everything In-Between programme, this two-session workshop invites participants to explore these questions through photography and personal storytelling in Katong-Joo Chiat. Participants’ contributions and works will also be featured as part of the programme’s exhibition in 2027.

Session One: Seeing and Encountering
Group 1: 7 November 2026 | Group 2: 28 November 2026

Discover different ways of seeing and storytelling through photography before embarking on a guided photo-walk around Katong-Joo Chiat. Bring a personal object connected to “someplace else” and use it as a starting point to explore what we bring with us when encountering a place. Participants will capture their perspectives of the neighbourhood and conclude with a group review of their photographs and ideas.

Session Two: Storytelling Through Sequencing and Zine-Making
Group 1: 14 November 2026 | Group 2: 5 December 2026

How might a sequence of images tell a story? Using photographs from the photo-walk, experiment with image sequencing and form to create your own photo-zine and uncover unexpected connections, narratives and ways of seeing. The session concludes with an informal sharing of participants’ creations.

This workshop is part of HAN@Katong-Joo Chiat, presented by Katong Culture, Objectifs Centre and supported by the National Heritage Board, as part of Heritage Activation Nodes.
