Description

What does it mean to forage in the city? In Geylang Serai, the answer lies in the wet market — a bustling neighbourhood institution where fresh, local ingredients have been sourced and traded for generations. Developed by the National Heritage Board's Youth Panel in partnership with the Museum of Food, this hands-on workshop brings that spirit of discovery to the kitchen, inviting you to cook with ingredients foraged straight from Geylang Serai Market.

Experience Highlights
Guided by the theme of urban foraging, discover how the wet market carries on the age-old practice of sourcing ingredients close to home — and how these humble ingredients have shaped the food culture of Geylang Serai. Through foraging mini-games, hands-on cooking with market-fresh ingredients, and a shared makan session, you'll piece together the heritage of the neighbourhood one dish at a time — and take home a keepsake recipe booklet to remember it by.

On the Menu
Working alongside facilitators from the National Heritage Board's Youth Panel and the Museum of Food, you'll get to make a lemongrass mocktail, nasi ulam, otah, and cendol.

This programme is part of HAN@Katong Joo-Chiat, and supported by the National Heritage Board, as part of Heritage Activation Nodes.
